It’s Mama…..
Today was a good day….
It was a day spent with you, Madison. It was good to wrap up food I had prepared yesterday and fix you a little “lunch” box for this week so you don’t have to cook. It was good to sit on the couch with Ladder, you, and me and catch up on our lives leaving behind the business of life and focusing on what really matters….one another.
It was good to head to the Pavilion and walk 2.5 miles together talking as fast as we can about things that only you and I can understand. The deep-seated love and affection causing us to laugh as we challenge one another to be our best and greater selves. The deeper still understanding that boundaries are healthy for a Mama and daughter.
And that ties that bind are meant to be wrapped up with love and genuine respect. That pink ribbon that runs from my mother’s heart to that of my daughter, you, is strong and beautiful, and lovely and I cherish it forever and always.
The laying to final rest some needed to be said things about the past and finding closure is a great gift we give to one another. The gift that personifies that a mother and daughter’s love and commitment is something of great value and to be cherished, especially when it has come with great effort and price.
Of all the relationships in my life, the one I have with you is one for which I am most grateful and proud. We have a beautiful relationship which enables us to be ourselves and yet, be bound to one another. We are not enmeshed, in fact, we are quite different in our view of many things, but on things important, we find peace in the quietude that love, compassion, and rooted love brings to our life.
I feel me increasingly standing on the bridge half across and watching you walk now, instead of behind me, and then beside me, walking in front of me…and it is beautiful.
It is time
You go with my blessing
While I hope to have many, many more days on this earth to be with you, we both understand more and more that we must be more purposeful and focused in our time together and not take it for granted…that time is God’s gift to us and to our relationship and that we should work hard to spend it in the presence of one another as often as we can…for like all beautiful seasons, it, in time, will pass. And, if done in the order of nature, I will go first and you will then walk without me.
But you will be ready because we have prepared for that day.
While I am wont to say, “lets not think on such things today” true love of a mother to a daughter prepares her so that she is ready and not caught off guard…so that she is strong and able to keep on journeying on in this thing we call life with full understanding of her purpose…that reason God has put you on this earth…and, the gifts He gives you to use while you are here
I genuinely believe that if you could see me through my eyes, you would be forever changed and would find a peace that comes from seeing the best of you…from the heart of the mother who loves you so dearly…
For, if you could see you through my eyes, you would bear witness to…
Kindness
Compassion
Warrior mindset
Best friend
Genuine
Blessed daughter
Sisterly love
Generosity
Strength of character
Joyful heart
Intelligent mind
Creative spirit
Tender heart
Explorer
Seeker of the good in others
God’s girl
Precious daughter
No earthly human knows you quite like I do, celebrates in your joys, carries your sorrows…
Witnesses your challenging decisions, watches your struggles
Enjoys your laughter
Drinks in your beauty
Hears the song in your heart
Rejoices in the successes your achieve
Like your mother
Not because I am better than others…for, I am not
But because I am blessed beyond others
To be called
To be your
Mama
And, for that I am forever grateful
Go out into this world bravely
Seek God in all the corners and crevices in this world
Be his hands and his feet to those who are in need
Be his eyes to see those who cannot
Be his love to those who have not
Because you can
Because when you give love to others, it multiplies
When you give it to others in the name of Jesus, it is unending
And it blesses the giver so much
I know this to be true
Because loving you has taught me this truth
Loving you has been the greatest gift God has ever given me outside of his son,
And, for you
I am eternally grateful
I love you as only your Mama can,
Mama
