Forgiving Yourself
Dear Sweet Friend,
Forgive yourself.
Don’t keep the things of your past in the back of your mind.
They happened, this is true.
You’ve been unkind.
You’ve been untrue to your character.
You’ve said things you didn’t truly mean,
hurt people you truly loved,
and behaved in ways that cause you to hate yourself.
You can’t even begin to examine the person you’ve been right now.
You can’t face the hurt you’ve felt that caused you to hurt others.
I want to encourage you to try.
Look in the mirror.
See the side of you that anger, grief, and betrayal has overtaken.
Where self-sabotage and loneliness became your best friend.
See the monster all your pain created.
And slay him.
You hurt those who loved you most in your life.
Your words didn’t align with your actions for a long time.
You believed the lies you told yourself about others to make it easier to lie to them.
You were a part of your own problem, and became angry at those who tried to help you own it.
Own the fact that you were the dragon at times, instead of the knight in shining armor.
Accept the fact that you weren’t always the good guy.
And forgive yourself.
It’s time.
Let it go.
Love yourself enough to forgive the person you’ve been.
And rise to be the person you were born to become.
Be your own hero, love.
Prepare for war.
Grab your helmet, pick up the sword, and slay the demons that you’ve been battling your whole life.
And forgive. ♥️
