“B is for Built”
“The Home that Love Built”
Children, this weekend has been one I will remember for the balance of my days. This weekend, Ian and I went to Crestwood and helped finish the move your Uncle Jim out of the home at 6011 Park Woods Road where he had lived for 11 years into a new home which your Uncle Jay, Aunt Janie, and Uncle Jim, working together, have provided…A home built with love…….
6011 Park Woods Road, Crestwood, Kentucky 40014 holds a unique and special place in the life of your Uncle Jim. In the words of Jim yesterday, this home has been the place where he has battled many challenges and overcome many things. There have been good times there and even some bad times, but in all times, “I knew God was with me”.
Before we closed and locked the door on 6011 for the last time, Ian, Jim, and I laid face down on the floor and thanked God for His presence these past 11 years and the protection and love He supplied Jim. It was a sacred moment Ian and I had with Jim in the quiet of the empty studio apartment we have visited many, many times over the years.
As we each took a turn thanking God for his provision and protection, shedding tears of remembrance and gratitude, the work of God was evident. I asked Jim if he would miss it here and he quickly said, “I will miss my neighbor, Kendra”. He went on to explain he had asked God to send him a friend and God provided in such a good friend who was right across the way. Jim and Kendra often would lean out their front doors and “talk across the way”. Funny enough…..we saw that banter back and forth as we helped get him moved yesterday and it was precious.
Jim said he felt certain that God sent his friend to him in such a timely fashion, that he would have struggled through the isolation of COVID-19 without her. As is God’s way, Kendra will move within a month, so the timing of Jim’s move to his new home is perfect. As God calls Kendra to move closer to her family in Alabama, God provides Jim a home which will bring his family closer to him in Crestwood.
We thanked God for all of that and more during that time of prayer and then Jim turned the key in the lock to 6011 Park Woods Road for one last time.
And, with a heart filled with hope and anticipation, we gathered up Jim’s last belongings and traveled just down the road to his new home…
