Wholehearted One
Unum Cor Perfectum
I had not studied Latin since my Sophomore year in college at Eastern Kentucky University. I took Latin 101 because I had the image of its being a very romantic language, the concept of which I loved. And, as well, I had decided to go to law school after college graduation and knew many legal terms had at their root the influence of Latin. That was enough to convince me. Take the class.
Forward thirty-six years later, sans law school (although I did go one semester in the early 80s…but, that is for another day) and the phrase wholehearted One…wholehearted 1….Whole-hearted….one…. would not leave me alone.
Over the years, I have used the term infrequently in signing notes to my mother and my children…”I love you with my whole heart” but that still did not explain the growing need to so some research on the origins of wholehearted…so, I did.
But, instead of studying its root, I ended up researching the work in its entirety in Latin
Wholehearted one in Latin is “unum cor perfectum” Unum means “one”Cor means “heart”Perfectum means “perfect” Maybe God was talking to me? In my faith belief, God is “one” He is perfect and He perfects the heart of me I think I loved the circular movement of that and thus my new blog was born. So, I am pulling out the old pen and paper although now it is keyboard and Microsoft word (not nearly as romantic but definitely in tune with how I write today). I am rusty. Words come with great effort and at stilted levels I had previously honed before. I think it will come back to me, well, it is my hope. But, in any event, with the advent of my nineth wedding anniversary, I christen this, my effort to return to writing, romance, and occasionally a word or two of Latin.
bella rosa et in horto Dei,
Lesa
I’m impressed. It’s not often in the chaos of everyday life that we recognize within ourselves the need to return to those things we put on hold. Your grandmother always aspired to be a writer that few of her family knew. If she were here today I believe she would have been a blogger. Since writing stories or a book we’re not in her future, she used her skills to write meaningful letters to her children and friends, your parents being the primary receivers of her words. I believe your grandmother would have delighted in reading your words just as I know I will. God bless!
Aunt Linda
Love you, Aunt Linda! I think she would have, too. Favorite memory with her was dancing with her to a song about being 17 again:). I wish I could remember the name of it. She and I would dance and then she and Ray would dance. Precious memories…and, she would tell me “you should go write this down”…so, I did.
