Its Madi…..Kisses at the Kitchen Sink
Kisses at the Kitchen Sink
She could feel the wind from the front door opening rush with quiet force into the room.
She pretended not to notice and kept a determined focus on washing the dishes in the sink, anticipation taking over her senses.
She listened to his footsteps and acted surprised when she suddenly felt his masculine hands caress the small of her back and curve around the right side of her waist, gripping her. Instantaneous warmth and emotion enveloped her as she gave into the embrace, nuzzling her head against his chin, cradling his face and stroking his beard as she felt his hot breath against her as he kissed her cheek.
He then kissed her neck, and she closed her eyes, breathing in the moment she had waited for all day as he returned from work. Felt the safety and heat from his touch which greeted her every single time their bodies met.
“Hey, baby. Hope you’ve had a good day.”
He said.
She thought to herself, “Any day i can look at your smile is a good day.”
He twirled her around and gave her a full hug, and she felt the muscles tighten in his chest as he pulled her close and she rested her head on his shoulder.
“Mmmmm,” she said. “I’m glad you’re home. I missed you.” Truth is she more than missed him… she craved his presence all day so she could feel content and complete in her day.
It’s funny how something as simple as a hug from him could calm her worries, or make her mind become blanketed with adoration and distract her from any negative thought that crossed her mind that day. In his presence, nothing else mattered to her but the two of them.
He kissed her again, this time on her lips. Fire shot through her instantaneously and her knees buckled, but she dare not share that with him. The power he had over her wasn’t something she wanted to share with him, not just yet. But she knew she’d do anything he wanted, respectfully. She had built up walls around her heart, and day by day she was becoming more convinced that this was the man who would scale those well-established walls in their entirety- the walls no man dared to climb before.
He sat down and started to eat dinner.
She just watched him, observed his every move. Enjoyed the inflection and tone in his voice, and the muscles tense in his jaw as he spoke.
He threw his head back laughing as he recalled moments from his day, and things people said to him that made him chuckle. “This is my perfect place.” She thought as she watched the twinkle in his eye shine at her and a devious smirk form at the corners of his mouth.
“Mmmm, that smile. I like it.” She said:
“Oh, you do? Still? You’re not tired of it yet?” He replied.
“Yes. It’s my favorite smile. I could stare at it forever, and I’d never get tired of it.” She responded.
“Remember you said that in a few years.” He laughed.
She just smiled, trying to just live in the moment. It was in these moments where she felt the deepest presence and love of God. The feelings she experienced were not of an earthly sense, as those are often rooted in self-gratification, revenge, or words not spoken. She could not truly identify the sensation, although many times she had tried.
This feeling- this was different.
It was unique- one she was sure she’d have found the words to describe before now. But yet when she attempted, nothing seemed to properly capture the significance she felt resting in her spirit.
She had been held by others in her lifetime, kissed a few frogs, been complimented for this thing or that thing others could observe about her. But she never allowed anyone to know the truth of who she was before.
Until now.
Until this man.
This man actually KNEW her.
The depth of their connection was a level of intimacy and peacefulness that she had read about in storybooks, or old romance novels. Many novels had a tendency to skip these important details leading straight to the climax. Yet, these were the most important. The only difference was that in this story, she was the main character and her charming prince sat in front of her in the kitchen. She was living her version of a fairytale, already.
She was where she needed to be, and with whom she was meant to be with. She was happy, safe, and loved.
She went to bed that night smiling and said silent prayers to God to allow these moments to last forever.
Things were not perfect, but they never had to be. She had grown to love the person she and him had become in each other’s presence. They were better together, and anyone who truly knew them would agree.
And without a doubt she knew she would trade perfection for those kisses at the kitchen sink, every time.
Always,
Madi ♥️
