If It’s Monday, It’s Mama
For Madison…..
Since another name for God is “The Word”, it is no surprise that he often uses words to pull us close, teach, and use to reach out in love to us. A word that has been reaching out and touching my thoughts frequently is “attraversiamo” which means to cross over. I was first introduced to this word via the movie Eat, Love, Pray which is an autobiographical story of a woman who is lost and is trying to find herself.
Particularly poignant to me is the scene here…

In this scene, Liz is talking to God. It appears for the first time. I remember similarly sitting in the theatre in Elizabethtown, Kentucky with tears streaming down my face feeling the same pain and uncertainty that Liz shares here. I prayed her words so many times, they are forever etched on my heart. And, while I was up to that time, a pretty frequent prayer, it felt like I was learning a-new to reach out to God in the abyss of one who has lost her way and is watching for any evidence of light to follow.
I know that is where you feel at times now. It is hard to love with all of your heart and then leave or lose them. Sharing the intimate parts of your heart with another and believing that sharing was sacred ground binds you in a way nothing else can. It is hard when you surrender your heart to someone, and that person does not end up being “the one” God has for you.
I do believe this, if and when you give over your heart to God, He will not fail you. In our Bible lesson today, Barret Coffman said about Lamentations – “Jeremiah’s sadness met with God’s steadfast to arrive at a sacred sadness” and one in which God meets us and loves us. He further went on to say, “Jeremiah has changed but his circumstances have not”. It is God’s steadfastness on which we can lean and change and grow. There are things we cannot change, and God’s steadfastness gives us the ability to live with our sacred sadness and to even grow closer to God and who he intended to be…. forever changed.
That is my prayer for you…that this season of your life is one in which you are forever changed into the woman God intended you to be when He knit you in my womb.
Barbara De Angelis says, “Love’s greatest gift is the ability to make everything it touches sacred.” So, as you move forward in your life, letting go and rebuilding, don’t be afraid, sweet daughter. You don’t go alone…you go with God and there is not better life partner you will ever have than Him.
It’s time to “attraversiamo” or cross over; don’t be scared to leave what is comfortable for what is Holy. Don’t be afraid to walk into space that is not certain…for you can know that God walks in front of, beside and behind you when you seek Him with all of your heart. And, what He has for you in this life is simply preparation for what He will ready for you in the next.
